Nether Winchendon House is a Medieval and Tudor manor house which was part of the endowment
of Notley Abbey. The Great Hall dates from the 12th Century and is now the family drawing room.
The dining room which has fine Tudor linenfold panelling and a fretted oak frieze and ceiling
was added on by Sir John Daunce, who was the last tenant here of the Abbot of Notley Abbey.

It is the former home of Sir Frances Bernard, Bt. (d.1779), the last British Governor of Massachusetts Bay. Links with America

The house was altered in the late 18th century in the Strawberry Hill Gothick style. It has been continuously occupied by the family since 1559 and contains their portraits. There is an interesting garden of fine and rare trees. The village is picturesque with an interesting church and is situated between Waddesdon Manor and Notley Abbey.

Church of St. Nicholas, Nether Winchendon.
